SUSTAINABILITY

Heritage, expertise, cutting-edge production techniques and sustainability are the salient features of DESA, an industrial company founded in 1972 in Istanbul by the Çelet Family and the only public company in Turkey in the leather goods sector, with headquarters in Turkey and offices in London, Milan, Düsseldorf and Sofia. What has allowed the company to grow and develop beyond any of its competitors and forge lasting partnerships over the years with the most reowned luxury companies, is first and foremost the complete control of the entire supply chain that allows the verification of every single process in the value chain not only inside but also outside of its production sites from sourcing of the materials to the tannery, from finishing to tailoring through a sophisticated tracking system.

Vertical integration offers a unique opportunity to control the entire value chain, starting from the sourcing of raw materials, a product derived from the food industiry, currently 95% of which coming from the UK and Norway. The use of a proprietary barcode system allows the sompany to trace not only the individual farm, but also certifies how the animal was raised and treated throughout its life. DESA is part of the leather Working Group (LWG), an those who are committed to monitoring and controlling the best environmental practices of the tanning industry. Every year LWG certifies the level of environmental sustainability and has recognized DESA with the Golden Standard that characterizes every step of the production of the garment, from the raw material to the garment construction. The current president is the founder of the company, Mr. Melih Çelet while the CEO of the company, listed on the stock exchange since 2003, is the son, Mr. Burak Çelet. Starting from 2022 and going towards the next few years, DESA further focuses on sustainability and the conversion to green energy with the use of a photovoltaic system in order to produce at least 50% of the energy used in its industrial plants. A full cycle sustainability also is ensured through staff training inside a company school for the new generations that will represent the future of the company and the 1972DESA.
